Gafur Gulyam House Museum

People's poet and academician of Uzbekistan Gafur Gulyam is a prominent prose writer and poet. Born into a peasant family on May 10, 1903, in the capital of Uzbekistan - Tashkent. He died in 1966. He was a passionate fighter for friendship, peace and happiness not only of his people, but of all mankind. In addition to writing, he is known for his journalistic and literary articles. He translated the works of many world classics into Uzbek.

The house-museum of Gafur Gulyam is located in the Chilanzar district of Tashkent. It was opened in honor of the famous publicist and writer Gafur Gulyam. In this place, you can learn more about the life and work of the famous resident of Uzbekistan.

The place for the museum was not chosen by chance. The two-storey villa that houses the museum was previously the writer's home, where he created and lived from 1944 to 1966. An exposition dedicated to literary works and a memorial complex are also located here.

The main initiators of the creation of the house-museum were the children of the famous poet. The house-museum of Gafur Gulyam solemnly opened its doors in 1983, to the 70th anniversary of the poet. This building is spacious and has its own courtyard. In this place, the poet worked for over 20 years. Also, on the territory of the courtyard where the museum is located, there is another house in which the poet's son lives.

The museum is divided into two parts. The first of them is a memorial, in which the writer lived, and the second is a two-story building where the main exhibition is located. The second building was completed for the 100th anniversary of Gafur Gulyam in 2003. In the memorial part of the museum, visitors will find a large number of the writer's personal belongings. There is also his rich library, study and living room, where Gafur Gulyam met with his friends. An interesting place is the music room, where there are two musical instruments: the vestibule and the dutar, which were once played by the owner of the house.

The exhibition complex in the new building acquaints guests with the work of the writer. Here are his manuscripts, photographs, books, articles on literature, translations of foreign works. The museum fund today has more than 12,000 exhibits, most of which were provided by the writer's relatives. Here you can also find exhibits donated to the museum by foreign fans. For example, a book in Greek, which published the story "Mischievous".

Some of the exhibits have an unusual history. In the city of Kiryat Gat in Israel, a memorial plaque was erected in honor of Gafur Gulam. Its grand opening was attended by the descendants of the writer. Guests can see a photograph of the event in the museum. Jews from Bukhara organized a creative evening in New York in honor of the 100th anniversary of the writer. Such attention to the poet is caused by the poem "I am a Jew", which condemns genocide, written in 1941. A copy of the article published in the New York newspaper is now kept in the house-museum.
