Immerse yourself in the world of Islamic civilization or another reason to visit the Hazrati Imam complex

Today, we will tell you about how Osman's Koran ended up in Tashkent

One of the most famous sights of Tashkent is the complex "Hazrati Imam", because it contains the oldest original of the Koran of Osman.

The Khazrati Imam complex includes the Barakhan Madrasah, the Tilla Shaikh Mosque, the Muyi Muborak Madrasah, the Kaffal Shoshiy tomb, the Namozgoh Mosque, as well as the Khazrati Imam Mosque and the new administrative building of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan.

The Muyi Muborak Madrasa, which is part of the Hazrati Imam complex, houses the library of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, which holds the "Osman's Koran" and rare manuscripts.

The building where the holy book of Muslims is kept, dating from the XII century, is the madrasa (Muslim school)"Muyi muborak". The Qur'an of Osman itself is the primary source of the holy book in a binding written on the skin of a deer in the middle of the seventh century. In total, six such Korans were written, but only four copies have survived to this day, and the best preserved copy is located in Uzbekistan. Although it is not whole. At various times, unscrupulous keepers sold some pages from the Koran to collectors. In London, Turkey, and Cairo, there are separate pages of the four Korans mentioned.

There are many versions of how the Koran came to Uzbekistan, but the most common is the following. When the great conqueror Amir Temur defeated the Turkish ruler Bayazet in 1402, when returning to his homeland, the path of the great commander lay through the Iraqi city of Basra, from where the Koran of Osman was brought to Samarkand, which was kept for a long time in the mosque of Hajj-Ahrar.

In 1869, General von Kaufmann captured Samarkand and transferred the Koran of Osman, according to legend, written in his own hand by the third Caliph Osman (644-656), to the imperial library in St. Petersburg. In 1905, 50 copies of this copy of the Koran were made, which were sold to eastern countries for a fabulous price. In 1917, Osman's Koran was taken to the city of Ufa, which is the center of Islam in Russia.

After the request of the ulama (Muslims) of Tashkent and Jizzakh to return the Koran, it was returned in 1924 to the Museum of the History of Tashkent, where it was kept until 1989.

In 1989, at the initiative of the first President Islam Karimov, the Koran was transferred to the spiritual administration of the Muslims of Uzbekistan.

All residents and guests of the capital have the opportunity to see the holy book  , which is located on the square of Hazrati Imam , or as it is usually called by the residents of Tashkent, Hastimama.
