In the center of Tashkent there is a museum devoted to one of the most famous women of Uzbekistan - Tamara Khanim, which is not far from the noisy road behind the residential and commercial centers. The house-museum is named after the great singer and dancer, where she lived in the last years of her life.
Tamara Khanum was born in 1906 in Fergana valley. Her true name was Petrosyan, her nationality was Armenian. Her entire biography was filled with love for the stage at age 13. In 1925, she graduated from the Moscow Theater Academy and also started her extensive concert: performing in Paris and other European cities, helping to create music and drama theaters in various cities of Uzbekistan and united with world artists.
Tamara Khanum had been a soloist at the Uzbek Philharmonic at the age of 30 and was actively involved in the Uzbek folk dance rehearsal. But the fame of the world danced her collections and the folklore of the peoples of the world. She could study foreign folk songs and dance in a few days. Due to her performance in different countries, there is a collection of national costumes, which is currently being exhibited at the Tamarakhanum Museum. There are Slavic dresses, Chinese and other Asian costumes, and even Egyptian dresses.
In addition, Tamara Khanum worked in the front lines of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and funded the construction of military equipment. In 1943, she became the captain of the Soviet Army to serve the country. Her long-term activities continued until the 1980s. Tamara Khanum died in 1991 in Tashkent. Three years after her death, the house museum was opened.
