Drinking coffee is a relatively new custom to Uzbeks who are traditionally avid drinkers of tea.

In recent years however, the number of cafes in Tashkent has exploded and there are many great options to get your caffeine fix. In this article we'll look at some of the best.

Chaykoff

Submitted by: Nilufar

Our favourite spot for breakfast, Chaykoff (a portmanteau of 'chai' and 'coffee'), lies somewhere between a cafe and restaurant.

The menu ranges from traditional breakfasts to goulash and chicken curry. It's also one of the few cafes serving alcohol.

With a stylish interior and TVs showing fashion shows and pop music, it's popular with urban, modern locals.

There are a few Chaykoffs dotted around the city but our favourite is in C1, just above Eco Park.

Good for: affordable breakfasts, smooth cappuccinos, and big choice of desserts.

Breadly

Breakfast at Breadly

The original fancy cafe/bakery in Tashkent, the owner apparently studied gastronomy in France before bringing it back to Uzbekistan in the form of Breadly.

Decent coffee and fancy meals, Breadly is your avocado-on-toast kind of place.

We don't visit too often any more as it's a bit overpriced but you won't be disappointed by the quality of the food at least.

Good for: Tashkent's best croissants

Beanberry

If you're just looking for coffee then Beanberry has the best coffee in Tashkent.

It's the only cafe where you can choose the type of bean and their coffee just tastes one level higher than everywhere else.

The breakfasts are lacking compared to the other two options listed above but they do have some solid choices for main meals such as thai curry and sushi.

Good for: The best cup of coffee in Tashkent!

Bon!

Breakfast at Con Cafe

Submitted by: Malika

Great value for money, Bon! is a chain of boulangeries with plenty of sandwiches, baguettes, and other bakery products. No fancy breakfasts here but they produce their own chocolate.

The quality of food is not the best in the city but prices are much cheaper here making it one of the more affordable cafes to eat in.

The coffee is quite average but their tea is pretty good.

One of their most popular branches on Chekhov Street in Mirabad is a great place to sit outside when the weather is warm.

Good for: Bread, omelette and very strong ginger tea.

Socials Cafe

Submitted by: Simon

Socials Cafe is connected to Arrows and Sparrows and Soul Cafe, offering a similar stylish experience. Located on Shevchenko Street, it serves a selection of tasty breakfasts and brunches in a relaxed setting.

Outdoor seating is particularly pleasant in spring and autumn, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal in the fresh air. The cafe is also known for its extravagant, Instagram-ready flower displays—perfect for those looking to snap a picture while they dine.

Good for: A relaxed brunch with a scenic backdrop

B&B Coffee House

Cappuccino at B&B Coffee

B&B Coffee House is one the cooler spots in Tashkent where a small army of young workers serve out budget breakfasts to loud pop music. You'd be forgiven for forgetting which country you're in.

Whilst every other cafe seems to have slowly been putting up prices, B&B prices seem to have been static for years!

The food is actually quite good, though the staff can sometimes be a bit inattentive. The coffee is also decent.

Due to its affordable prices, it tends to attract a slightly younger crowd. It's another chain of cafes and most of them are very laptop-friendly if you're looking for somewhere to work from.

Good for: Probably the cheapest modern-style cafe in the city

Rodena Coffee

Submitted by: Dildora

Due to its location on Parkent Street it might be too far out from the centre for most tourists but Rodena Coffee is one of the best all around cafes in the city.

It's one of the newer cafes so we've only visited once but were surprised by its quality coffee and food. We had attentive staff and quick service despite being a Saturday evening.

They have quite an extensive menu including sushi and pizza.

With gray-washed walls and darkly lit rooms it doesn't look like a place for families but surprisingly has a small play area for young children.

Good for: great place to relax if you have young children.
