The Art Gallery of Uzbekistan, established in 2004, is a notable addition to Tashkent's cultural landscape. Initiated by the first president of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, the gallery showcases modern Uzbek art and photography from university students. The gallery’s origins trace back to 1994 when Karimov curated a fine art collection for the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of Uzbekistan. As the collection grew, it necessitated a dedicated exhibition space, leading to the gallery’s establishment.
The gallery spans an impressive 3,500 square meters and houses 15 exhibition rooms. The interior itself is a sight to behold, featuring a giant chandelier and a beautifully decorated ceiling, akin to the State Museum of the Temurids.

Visitors to the Art Gallery of Uzbekistan can explore a wide array of contemporary art from some of the country's leading artists. The gallery offers both temporary exhibits and a permanent collection, providing a comprehensive overview of Uzbekistan's modern artistic landscape.
The gallery is designed to be a multifaceted cultural hub. It includes a conference room, lecture hall, small cinema hall, library, and a studio for masterclasses and workshops. Additionally, there are cafeterias and small gift shops within the main building, making it a convenient and welcoming place for visitors to spend time.
Beyond its own exhibits, the Art Gallery of Uzbekistan also hosts international and local exhibitions and cultural events, making it a dynamic part of Tashkent's art scene.
