Suzuk Ota Complex

At the entrance to the Suzuk Ota complex, a parking lot is being built along with a museum, shop, and library. Inside the complex, there is a mausoleum and a mosque. On both sides of the entrance, 34 two-story houses for artisans will be constructed. This site is set to become a real center for artisans, continuing the country's long-standing traditions of handicrafts.

Suzuk-ota, whose given name was Mustafokul, was born in 1140 in the village of Korachuk, Turkestan. He was the youngest son of Gavhari Khushtozh, the only daughter of Ahmad Yassavi. His grandfather, affectionately calling him "Suzuk," meaning beloved, inspired the name by which he became known.

Upon reaching adulthood, Suzuk-ota settled in a deserted area near the Tashkent makhallas of "Chakar," "Chukurukprik," and "Mirlar," and began its development.

He invited Koran reciters, craftsmen, relatives, and friends from his homeland to build houses and share their knowledge and skills. He taught youth farming, handicrafts, and other professions, becoming a mentor to hundreds.

Suzuk-ota passed away in 1217, and his makhalla became renowned as a community of masters.

This cultural center, organized on the initiative of the head of state, aims to honor Suzuk-ota's legacy and continue the ancient traditions of handicraft. Throughout the 20th century, the mahalla underwent various name changes but was restored to its original name, Suzuk-ota, after independence.

The mausoleum and mosque, located in part of the makhalla guzar, are said to have been built during the era of Amir Temur. The mosque can accommodate around 700 worshipers.

In 1930, the mosque and madrasah were closed and repurposed into a metal products enterprise. Offices and a warehouse were built where the cells once stood. This mosque, with the largest dome in the city at 10 meters in diameter, remained in this state until 1990.
